Building Knowledge. Strengthening Resilience. Protecting the Future.

According to a UNEP environmental assessment conducted in 1999–2000 at the request of the Government of Guinea, the influx and prolonged settlement of refugees from Liberia and Sierra Leone caused significant land degradation and deforestation in refugee-hosting areas of Guinea, including the broader Guéckédou region. This underscores the urgent need for community-centered environmental education and climate resilience programs that address not only biodiversity loss but the long-term ecological impacts of human displacement and resource pressure.

Climate change is no longer a distant threat for communities in Guinea’s forest region. It is already affecting ecosystems, health, livelihoods, and food security, particularly in vulnerable areas such as Guéckédou.

Environmental degradation, deforestation, and changing climate patterns increase the risks faced by both people and nature.

At Le Club des Amis de Guéckédou, we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for climate action. Through our Climate Change and Environmental Education programs, we work with communities to strengthen understanding of environmental challenges, promote sustainable practices, and support local solutions that protect both biodiversity and human well-being.

Our Approach

Our work combines environmental education, community engagement, and practical action. We focus on translating scientific and public-health knowledge into accessible, locally relevant information that communities can apply in their daily lives.

Our initiatives include:

  • Raising awareness on climate change impacts and environmental risks,

  • Promoting sustainable land use, reforestation, and biodiversity conservation,

  • Educating communities on the links between environment, health, and livelihoods,

  • Working with youth, schools, and local leaders to build long-term environmental stewardship.

From Awareness to Action

Environmental education is not only about information—it is about changing behaviors and strengthening resilience. By empowering communities with knowledge and practical skills, we help reduce vulnerability to climate-related shocks, improve natural resource management, and foster a culture of responsibility toward the environment.

Through partnerships with local authorities, schools, and international organizations, our programs contribute to a more informed, prepared, and environmentally conscious society.

Our Commitment

By investing in climate change and environmental education today, we are helping to protect ecosystems, safeguard public health, and ensure that future generations inherit a healthier and more resilient environment.

Protecting nature starts with understanding it. Acting together makes it last.

Plant a tree initiative

Our Plant a Tree initiative promotes reforestation and ecosystem restoration through community-led tree planting activities. By establishing community nurseries and planting native species, we help restore degraded landscapes, improve soil health, and strengthen local resilience to climate change.

Connecting kids with nature

We engage children and young people through environmental education activities that reconnect them with nature. By introducing biodiversity, conservation values, and hands-on learning experiences, we inspire the next generation to respect, protect, and care for their natural environment.

Awareness Raising

Our awareness-raising initiatives focus on educating communities about environmental protection, climate change, and sustainable practices. Through sensitization campaigns, community dialogues, and local outreach, we promote informed actions that support long-term environmental and community well-being.
