Species Conservation – Feliciadamia stenocarpa
We want to conserve the last generation of the Feliciadamia Stenocarpa
This project, supported by BirdLife International, focuses on the conservation of Feliciadamia stenocarpa, a Critically Endangered plant species endemic to Mount Konossou, in the Guinean forest region. The species is found nowhere else in the world, making its protection a matter of both national responsibility and global conservation priority.

Goal
Through this project, Le Club des Amis de Guéckédou implements a community-based, science-informed conservation approach that combines habitat protection, local engagement, and environmental education. The project works closely with surrounding communities, local authorities, and technical partners to strengthen stewardship of the site and promote long-term protection of the species and its habitat.

Key activities
Mount Konossou represents the last known natural habitat of Feliciadamia stenocarpa and is increasingly threatened by human pressure, land degradation, and limited awareness of its ecological value. In response, Le Club des Amis de Guéckédou (CAG) is implementing a community-based, science-informed conservation approach aimed at safeguarding the species while strengthening local livelihoods and ecological resilience.
The project combines community sensitization, habitat restoration, and capacity building.
Planned and ongoing activities include environmental awareness campaigns, reforestation actions, the establishment of community nurseries, the training of local eco-guards, and the development of local charters for sustainable natural resource management. These actions are designed to reduce pressure on the habitat, promote local stewardship, and ensure long-term protection of the species.
